How to use this site

This is from RK - needs huge edits

The site is intended as an aid and a resource for would-be and actual research students in Education. The site is not something that you sit down and browse through in one sitting. Probably it's best to get used to what has been put where (the two menus) and have a bit of a look around.

The site is open to the world so anyone can read any of the pages on the site. If you are a student who is enrolled in a research degree in Education at Griffith you can join the site and make contributions to it both in terms of information about your research work but also about the other resources on the site. It you want to do that you can email one of the curators of the site.

What browser do I use?

WikiDot recommends the use of Mozilla Firefox as a browser but Safari and Google Chrome appear to work well. Importantly, browsers should have Cookies and JavaScript enabled1.

How do I find my way around?

The site is organised with two sets of menus. The menu on the left-hand side has links to people and information about the site, how to use it, Wiki syntax and so on.

The top menu provides links to resources to support your research journey. The header for each menu has an introduction for each theme.

The place to begin is with the Beginnings menu at the top of this page.

Where there is a number of pages connected in a tree-like structure, there will be breadcrumbs on each page to allow you to find your way back to where you began.

And, if all else fails, try the search box at top left. It will bring up any pages with the word of phrase you type there.

What about links that take me outside the Wiki?

All external links (we hope :) ) have been configured so they open in a new page or tab depending on the preferences set in your browser.

OK. I've read a bit and I'd like to add my own information but I've never used a Wiki before. What do I do?

Great! first thing that you need to do before you can add or edit a page is to join this Wiki. If all you want to do is read what is here you never have to join but if you want to contribute you will need to join.

There is a built in guide to the syntax for using this Wiki2 but we have put together a simpler version to help get folk going.

So far so good. I notice the menu item sharing stuff and have had a look. What is that for and how do I use it?

The sharing stuff menu item links to the forum for this Wiki. If you follow the link you will find a number of broad topic areas which are in red. Click on the one that looks like it would be a good area for you to write your post in. If there are no threads for that category you can begin one and just follow the prompts.
